Day 77 of 280, first trimester

You are 11 weeks exactly

The organs that let your baby see, hear, and taste are developing fast, and he's starting to move around.

203 days until your due date

Your baby will rely heavily on his senses in the uterus and after birth, and key development is happening now.

The ears keep moving up toward their final position, but your baby can't hear yet. Hearing needs the middle and inner ear to mature and the inner ear to connect to the brain. It will be one of the first senses to develop, and can be tested by seeing whether the baby responds to sound waves reaching him in the uterus. It's harder to tell when taste develops, but taste buds are starting to appear on the tongue.

The eyes have a lens and an early retina, but even if the eyelids were open, they couldn't detect light yet, because the lens is solid and the optic nerve isn't responding to signals from the retina.

Your baby is moving more, but he's too light for you to feel his kicks. You'll be fully aware of him in about two months.

Ask a Doctor

I had some bleeding after exercising. Should I be worried?

If you have vaginal bleeding during exercise, with or without cramping, stop straight away and get medical advice. Exercise is unlikely to be the cause, but you should be checked before exercising again.

First-trimester bleeding can have many causes that have nothing to do with exercise, but it's important to rule out problems. Once your doctor gives you the all-clear, you can start exercising again.
