Day 55 of 280, first trimester
You are 7 weeks and 6 days
If you're planning a vacation, remember you may not feel up to a long trip.
225 days until your due date
You may have booked a vacation before you found out you were pregnant, or just want to get away. But if you're tired and have morning sickness, you may not feel like traveling far.
One advantage of going away is spending quality time with your partner and really embracing the fact that you're going to be parents.
Check whether travel insurers will cover you during pregnancy, check the medical facilities at your destination, and take your prenatal records if you have them. Some airlines won't let women fly after 36 weeks without a doctor's letter, written within 72 hours of the flight, confirming your due date and fitness to fly.
Explainer
On the plane
Relax and have a nap on the flight, but get up regularly to stretch your legs. Keeping your blood circulating is even more important when you're pregnant.
Good to know
Breathe easy
Exercise can help prevent breathlessness and make your heart and lungs (cardiovascular system) more efficient, helping you cope with the physical demands of pregnancy now and later.
A cardiovascular workout means raising your heart rate for at least 20–30 minutes. Pregnancy isn't the time to train for a marathon, so stick to moderate intensity. To check you're at the right level, try talking while you exercise; if you can't, slow down.
Try interval training, alternating five minutes of cardio with five minutes of upper-body toning. Breathe out as you lift the weights and in as you relax.
Deep breathing gets oxygen to your vital organs and helps your cardiovascular system work well. In pregnancy, avoid short, shallow breaths and focus on expanding your rib cage and filling your lungs.
